Duncan is the man who made all of this happen. Way back, when One Water was just an idea conjured up between a group of mates, he had the vision and dedication to see it through to the first bottles rolling off the production line, and far beyond.
Duncan is the founder of Global Ethics, the company behind the One brand. His background is in marketing, but he turned social entrepreneur after his experiences on a motorbike trip around the world between 1998 and 2000. He shares some of his experience here:
“It was an amazing odyssey and I was fortunate to have people all over the world take me under their wing when it went wrong – as it sometimes did. I learnt a lot about humanity and about the kindness of strangers.
When I left, I knew three neighbours on my street in London, and having moved to London again, I’ve made a point of getting to know all of them. I often say that if you knew a neighbour in your street was starving, or dying of HIV, you’d do something to help them and this is kind of what One has started to do – albeit on a global scale. We’re all neighbours, but sometimes we just don’t realise it.”
Duncan was instrumental in launching the One brand here in Australia, one of the first truly social enterprises of its type in the country. Working with Australian entrepreneurs such as Creel Price, Alicen Spencer and Tony Harris and with huge support from a team at GroupM, the One brand became established in Australia in 2009.
