A Mother’s Day tale about a mother and clean water
This is the tale of a mother who cared very much for her children and worked very hard to give them a better future.
The only problem was that she lived in a small village with no access to clean water. The village was located in a very poor region and the government did not have the money to provide for clean water for all the people in the country.
The people could not be as productive as they would like to be. Because of water related diseases they often fell ill and could not go to work and children missed out on school.
It took the mother many hours every week to fetch her family’s water. With the other household chores, this left her very little time to do other productive work or generate an additional income for the family.
One beautiful night, the mother dreamt of having running water in her house. In her dream the kitchen and the bathroom were connected to running water. She could just get a glass out of the cupboard and fill it with fresh water. Her children would come home happily from school and drink a glass of cool, fresh water directly from the tap in the kitchen.
The mother dreamt about the better life her family would have with easy access to clean water.
Early in the morning the mother woke up and realized that having running water in her house had just been a dream. Daily reality kicked in and she told herself that she just had a very silly dream. She then started boiling the water she had collected the night before from the well to give it to her children.
Unfortunately for her, she lives in a country where having access to clean water is not for everyone.
Do one good thing and help the mothers who are less fortunate than us by realizing their dream of clean flowing water.
We wish all the mums everywhere in the world a happy mother’s day.
One Water chosen charity on Match Day Melbourne Rebels
As part of our ongoing relationship with One Water ambassador James O’Connor, the One team spent the day in Melbourne with the Melbourne Rebels on 18th March.
The wonderful Melbourne Rebels choose a charity to support at each home game, by allowing donations to be collected and providing advertising space. One Water was allocated the family game, played on a Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of almost 12,000. The sun was blazing as the Rebels took on the Cheetahs, one of the South African teams in the Super XV.
Volunteers collected over $500 from Rebels fans on the afternoon – huge thanks to all those who came to collect on our behalf, especially those from our development partner Oxfam, and of course to those fans who donated on the day.
Unfortunately, the game went against the Rebels in the final minute of play, losing 26-33. There was consolation for James who was named Man of The Match after a fantastic game as playmaker.
Our thanks to James, all the players and the management team at the Melbourne Rebels for their help on the day and their ongoing support of One Water.
Stay tuned for more information about our relationship with the Rebels!

Young entrepreneurs pay $1,500 for a bottle of One Water
In Sydney and Melbourne last month, hundreds attended Unconvention, the largest event in Australia for entrepreneurs under 40. The event brings together the best entrepreneurs and top-tier brands in the country including Microsoft, ANZ and Dell.
The Young Entrepreneurs Unconventions are hosted by The Entourage, Australia’s leading educator of entrepreneurs, connecting Australia’s best entrepreneurs with Australia’s next entrepreneurs.
The folks at The Entourage wanted to do something different to make a difference at the event, so decided to sell One Water to help fund water projects in developing countries.
In addition to loose change for bottled water, they also held an auction to bid for a bottle of One Water.
A lunch with Andrew Morello, winner of the Australian Apprentice, was also thrown in for free, but we think it was the water which pushed the price up!
In total the auction raised $4000 – huge thanks to Andrew for his time and effort, and to Matt Banks, George Mihos, Michael Atwell and Peter Stojkovski who all successfully bid up to $1500 for a bottle of One Water.
We know it’s great water, we just hadn’t realised how great!
In total, more than $5,000 was raised over the two days. Our special thanks go to Jack Delosa, Managing Director of The Entourage and all of his team for helping on the day. For more information, go to www.the-entourage.com.au. And if you have time, please watch this great event video with do’s and don’ts for starting your own business.

One Water video – World Water Day 2012
Last month, Duncan Goose, founder of the One brand, traveled to North Kenya to visit One Water projects. During his trip he made a short video for World Water Day to share his experiences with the rest of the world.
As Duncan explains in the video, “it’s difficult to imagine what life is like for people in North Kenya. There is a lack of water and a lack of shade. For the community, life is a very fragile existence.”
One funds like for like projects somewhere in the world
Taking North Kenya as an example, Duncan continues by explaining the idea behind the One brand: “Every time we create a One product, we donate 100% of the profits that we make from that to fund a like for like humanitarian initiative somewhere in the world.”
Consider swapping your normal water brand to One Water
“Our approach to helping communities get back on their feet with clean water supply is simple. We work with some the best NGO’s and what we do is simple and life changing. Through the sales of One Water, we’re helping to change lives by providing clean water. We’re asking people to consider swapping the normal water brand they buy to buying One because 100% of the profits we make are used to change people’s lives in developing countries.”
We hope you have time to watch the video. And… please buy One Water next time you do your grocery shopping and tell your friends about it.

World Water Day 2012 – a day to think about water usage around the world
Thursday 22nd March 2012 is World Water Day – a time when we’re asked to think about water usage around the world. Here at One Water, we remind people that you can do one good thing every day, simply by buying One Water instead of another brand of bottled water – 100% of our profits go towards funding lifesaving water projects in developing countries. Click here for information about our recent work in Cambodia.
In Australia the link between water and food is not always top of mind
This year, World Water Day focuses on Water and Food Security. For many of us in Australia, the link isn’t top of mind – we don’t think about how much water is used in the production of our food. And advances in Australian farming mean that some crops have become more water-efficient over time. However, it’s interesting that:
- it takes 1500 litres of water to produce 1kg of wheat – and
- over 15,000 litres to produce 1kg of beef!
For those in developing countries, the provision of clean, safe water isn’t just important for drinking; it is key for growing crops, feeding livestock, and feeding the family.
1.8 billion people are expected to lack water by 2025
The UN expects that
“by 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world’s population could be living under water stressed conditions. The lack of water limits farmers’ ability to produce enough food to eat or earn a living. South Asia, East Asia and the Middle East for example are already close to their resources limits, and their population is still growing.”
So take a moment today to consider the impact that water scarcity has on the lives of people elsewhere. And thanks for supporting our work to bring clean, safe water to communities around the world – you are truly doing one good thing.

One Water materials for school projects
As a social entreprise, One Difference Australia aims to raise the awareness of alternative ways to solve social issues such as worldwide water shortages. This topic is of special interest to students because they are the ones who are best positioned to realize positive change in the years to come.
To teach students about alternative ways to tackle social change, we’ve created a One brochure explaining about our like-for-like projects. If you have any questions, or if you need any other materials for a school project, please get in touch with us.
The One Foundation Australia Melbourne Rebel’s chosen charity
Check out the press release about the Melbourne Rebels – Cheetahs game this Sunday:
The One Foundation Australia is proud to be the Melbourne Rebel’s chosen charity for this weekend’s clash against the Cheetahs at AAMI park. As sportsmen, the RaboDirect Rebels recognise the importance of access to clean and safe drinking water, something often taken for granted.
New recruit and rising star James O’Connor is a long-time supporter of One Water. “Having grown up in Australia, it’s easy to take clean water for granted. However, being fortunate enough to travel the world playing rugby, I have seen that not everyone is as fortunate as we are in Australia. One Water is making a massive difference by delivering clean water solutions to rural communities in developing nations.”
100% of the profits from the sale of One Water, as well as individual donations, go towards funding life-saving sustainable water projects. One Water is sold in Woolworths supermarkets and Harris Farm stores across Australia, as well as universities, cafes and a range of other ethically minded retailers. Sales of One products worldwide to date have raised AUD$11 million and improved the lives of over two million people.
Pictures of the event will be shared with you on our Facebook page and on Twitter. And learn more about the involvement of James O’Connor with One Water and The One Foundation Australia.
Commuters in Melbourne can’t miss One Difference ads on Valentines Day
One Difference Australia funds first Cambodia-based projects
Cambodia, one of the poorest countries in South East Asia, has water in abundance but still lacks clean water facilities in many rural areas such as Chhloung, Chetr Borei, Preaek Prasab, Snuol and Kracheh. One Difference Australia is now able to share the first results of our efforts to bring clean water to this country.
Thanks to the sale of One Water in Australia, several villages in Cambodia have received funding to improve the supply of clean drinking water.
- One of the target villages is Tnoat where children at Tnot primary school can now enjoy drinking clean water again after the repair of a faulty water pump. Similar work has been undertaken at two other schools in Choeng and Doeng villages.
- In addition to the schools, One Water Australia has funded the repair of 11 water pumps and the construction of a new water pump on a community level. This will increase the access to improved water and hygiene for all the villagers living in these settlements.
We will share more news on our water projects over the coming weeks.
Thanks to everyone for buying One Water in Australia and doing one good thing for the people of Cambodia.
